Vom 12. bis 13. April 2012 veranstaltet das Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Forschung an der Universität Bielefeld die internationale Konferenz "Giving Meaning to Interdisciplinarity in the Organization of Universities. A Symposium on the Occasion of Helmut Schelsky's 100th Birthday”. Hier soll untersucht werden, welche Anforderungen Forschung und Lehre heute an die traditionelle Universitätsstruktur mit ihrer Unterteilung in Fakultäten und Fachbereiche stellen. Die Konferenz soll sich mit dem Entwicklungsaspekten für Universitäten aus Sicht der Interdisziplinarität befassen und holt hierzu die Expertise bekannter nationaler und internationaler Universitäten ein, die bereits interdisziplinäre Konzepte und Strukturen in Forschung und Lehre umsetzen.
